West Sussex Youth Music Award
The West Sussex Youth Music Award (WSYMA) has been running for approximately 16 years in it's current form. It is the only competition in the West Sussex area that serves as a real launch pad to young and aspiring young professional musicians. The winner is awarded a cash prize of £400, along with an invitation to perform at a Sunday Recital during the Spring of the following year at the Regis School of Music.
In order to be eligible, entrants must be:
In the first heat, we ask each entrant to prepare an 8 minute programme which is performed to an adjudicating panel of two musicians of differing disciplines. 4 finalists, with one reserve finalist, are put forward to the final which takes place in March of each year. During the final, each finalist is asked to prepare a rounded, concert style programme of 15 minutes to the general public, and a different panel of 2 adjudicators. The adjudicators deliberate while the reserve finalist performs, and the winner is announced at the end of the event.
The RSM are hugely grateful to Dulcie Knapman, who coordinates the competition.
For more information on how to enter, please contact 01243 866 462. Applications are invited from September 2017 for a first round in January 2018.
